Why is "number in first 8 seconds" weighted so high?
The brain locks onto specific numbers. "I lost $80,000" outperforms "I lost a lot of money" by an order of magnitude in retention testing. Numbers also signal that the speaker is making a concrete claim (which the viewer can pattern-match against their own experience) rather than telling a vague story.
Does the score predict performance with high accuracy?
Within the controlled experiment, yes. The 6 winners all scored 80 or higher and the 41 underperformers all came in under 60. On other source material the correlation holds but isn't perfect, so treat it as a strong hint rather than a guarantee.
What if my clip scores 70?
A 70 is worth posting, just don't expect it to carry the week. Use it inside a batch of 4 to 6 clips where one or two 80+ scorers do the heavy lifting.
