Frequently asked questions

How does the splitter decide where to cut?

Sentences are the unit — a post only ends where a sentence ends, and paragraph breaks in your source text are respected as natural post boundaries. Only a single sentence longer than the whole limit gets split at word boundaries. That’s the difference from naive splitters that cut at exactly 280 characters mid-word.

Does the numbering count against the character limit?

Yes, and the tool accounts for it. When numbering is on, space for the "(12/34)" suffix is reserved before packing each post, so every post including its number stays under the limit.

What makes a thread perform well?

The first post is 90% of the outcome — it must work as a standalone hook, because that is all non-followers see. Keep one idea per post, end mid-tension where you can (a cliffhanger between posts is what drives the tap on "show more"), and close with a clear CTA post: follow, link, or the recap.

Do links count as 280 characters on X?

No — every link is wrapped by t.co and counts as 23 characters regardless of its real length. Emoji count as 2 in X’s official counting; this tool counts them as visible characters, so very emoji-heavy posts may read slightly under X’s own meter — leave a little margin.
