Why does Instagram remove my line breaks?
Two triggers: any line that ends with a trailing space, and fully empty lines, which the app collapses when the caption is posted or edited. It’s been an Instagram quirk for a decade. This tool strips trailing spaces from every line and places an invisible character on each blank line, so the app no longer sees them as empty.
What is the invisible character trick?
The formatted caption puts a Unicode braille blank (U+2800) on every empty line. It renders as nothing, but to Instagram the line contains a character, so the break is preserved. It has survived every app update for years and also works on TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Do spaced-out captions actually perform better?
Readable captions get read. A caption formatted as a wall of text loses readers at the fold; short paragraphs with visual air keep people on the post longer, and caption dwell time is one of the engagement signals Instagram measures. Formatting isn’t decoration — it’s retention.
Does this work if I type the caption in the Instagram app?
No — the fix lives in the copied text. Write your caption here, copy with the button, and paste directly into Instagram. If you edit the caption inside the app afterwards, retype carefully: deleting the invisible characters brings the collapsing back.
