Story Recap: Narrated Shorts From Long Videos

Creator and Agency. A story recap uses 12 credits; a Highlights short uses 1. Not included in Starter.

Some videos hold a story rather than a quotable moment: a plan, a setback, a fix and a reaction at the end. Story recap finds that arc in a long video, writes a short narration that opens with a hook, voices it over the video’s own footage with sound effects, music and graphics, and hands the last seconds to the original audio, so the payoff lands in the speaker’s own words.

How it works

  1. 01

It looks for a complete story

The transcript is searched for an arc: a setup, a conflict (a real setback or surprise), a comeback, sometimes an escalation, and a payoff that someone says on camera. If no part of the video has both a conflict and a comeback, no recap is made and the video gets Highlights clips instead.

  2. 02

It writes and voices the narration

A script is written on that arc in plain, everyday words, opening with a hook that raises the question the story answers. Each line is checked against the transcript, so the narration says only what the video supports. An AI voice reads it, and footage of the moments being described fills the picture under each line.

  3. 03

It is mixed like an edit

The original sound drops under the narration. Sound effects mark each turn of the story and rise into the payoff, a music bed sits under the voice, and on-screen graphics point out the numbers and objects the story turns on. Then the payoff plays in the original audio.

The details

  • A recap is a vertical short of up to 60 seconds. Up to 3 recaps are made from one video.
  • It is opt-in. Highlights is the default clip style; choose Story recap for a video when you submit it, set it as your default, or pick it in an Autopilot recipe.
  • Each recap uses 12 credits from the monthly allowance (200 on Creator, 500 on Agency). The video’s processing minutes are counted as for any other video.
  • The narrator’s voice is synthetic and the script is written by AI from your transcript. Watch a recap before you post it; it opens in the editor and exports like any other clip.
  • A recap needs a story. A panel of separate opinions or a lecture with no setback and recovery often has none, and those videos get Highlights clips.

Questions

How is a story recap different from a Highlights clip?

A Highlights clip cuts one moment out of the video and keeps the speaker’s words. A recap retells a longer story in a narrator’s voice over the footage, compressing minutes into under a minute, and only the payoff is the original audio.

Why does a recap cost 12 credits?

It is much more work than a cut: finding the story, mapping the shots, writing and checking a script, voicing it and mixing it. A Highlights short costs 1 credit.

What happens if my video has no story?

No recap is made, and the video is clipped as Highlights instead. Credits are counted for the shorts you receive, so you are not charged 12 credits for a recap that was not made.

Which plans include story recap?

Creator and Agency. Starter clips are Highlights only.
